Birmingham Royal Ballet’s new Shakespearean production, The Tempest, choreographed by David Bintley, is to play Sunderland in October.
The new work, which will have its première at Birmingham Hippodrome on Saturday 1 October, with performances there until Saturday 8 October, will visit Sunderland Empire from 20 to 22 as part of a national tour.
Set to a new score by British composer Sally Beamish and lit by Bruno Poet (Miss Saigon), the ballet will be designed by Rae Smith (The Prince of the Pagodas for BRB and War Horse for the National Theatre). It will, we are promised be “full of theatrical wizardry.”
Those who are interested in seeing how the work develops can follow the creative process during August and September online at where currently there are a few costume designs and David Bintley’s explanation of how the project began.
