Quest

Folk and hip hop dance company Breaking Tradition and folk band The Demon Barbers are bringing Quest, a fusion of Morris, clog and sword dance with popping, locking, breaking and martial arts to the beat of new songs and traditional melodies with an electronic edge to tell the story of Kai's search for his missing sister which draws him in the extraordinary computer game FOREVER QUEST at The Sage in Gateshead next month.

Breaking Tradition Dance Company aims to raise the profile of traditional English dance, music and song through integration with modern genres. The company emphasises the cultural importance of traditional English heritage through the delivery of high quality, accessible performance and education.

Founded by Artistic Director Damien Barber, Breaking Tradition is widely recognised as the UK's leading folk and hip hop dance company and has developed its own unique repertoire of folk and hip hop dance fusion.

Barber has been a professional folk singer since leaving college in 1989. Having spent eleven years as a solo artist, he formed The Demon Barber Roadshow in 2000 with the aim of creating an original and imaginative approach to traditional music, song and dance.

“We're really excited to have produced a new dance show specifically aimed at a younger generation which incorporates traditional folk customs into the digital world,” said Barber. “And we're looking forward to bringing Quest to The Sage, having received such a fantastic reaction to the première from audiences in our new home at Kala Sangam, Bradford.”

Quest will take families, gamers and live music and dance lovers of all ages on an adventure. When Kai’s sister disappears, it’s down to him to find her, but should he be looking in the real world? Or somewhere else…

Quest is at The Sage (Sage Two) at 2:00 on Sunday 9 September as part of a 14-venue national tour.

Tickets are £14.20 for adults, £8.70 for children (family ticket available) by phone on 0191 443 4661 or from the Sage Gateshead web site.
