Andrew Comben

New Brighton CEO

Australian Andrew Comben has been appointed as the new Chief Executive of the Brighton Dome and Festival.

Comben has almost a decade's senior management experience as Director of the Britten-Pears Young Artist Programme (Aldeburgh Festival) and Head of Artistic Planning at Wigmore Hall, he has a track record in all areas of general management as well as an excellent reputation as an innovator and educator.

Through his work at Aldeburgh and the Wigmore Hall Comben has built a network of high-level international artistic contacts in theatre, dance and music which, the trustees believe, will greatly enhance the work for which Brighton Dome and Festival are already well known. His work with the Community and Education Departments at both institutions marks a commitment to involve all members of the local community in creative work, an aspect of BDFL's activities that the Trustees are enthusiastic to see grow.

He will join the organisation at the start of May in time to experience his first Brighton Festival.

Polly Toynbee, Chairman of BDFL said, "Andrew is already held in the highest regard in the arts world and having seen his initial thoughts for the 2009 Festival we are confident and excited that this marks new horizons for Brighton Dome and Festival. His appointment was a unanimous decision by the panel, including both our main funders, Arts Council England and Brighton & Hove City Council. He combines both artistic vision and the entrepreneurial skill to manage our three beautiful venues year round. It's a coup for Brighton to catch such an exciting young talent."

Andrew Comben said, "I am delighted and honoured to be given this opportunity at such a key stage in BDFL's history. Brighton Dome and Festival stand ready for new artistic endeavours and I look forward to working with the terrific team and with Brighton's vibrant artistic community in leading the organisation in all its activities."
