The interior of the Bristol Hippodrome

More Bristol Woes as Producers Cancelled

To add to the theatrical problems facing Bristol with the sudden closure of the Old Vic and the cash crisis at the Tobacco Factory, the Bristol Hippodrome has announced that it has cancelled the entire five week run of The Producers and that the run of Starlight Express is to be shortened by a week.

Starlight Express, which opens on 17th July, was due to run until 11th August but will now close on 4th. The Producers was scheduled to run from 21st August to 22nd September.

A statement from the theatre regretted the cancellation of The Producers and said, "Despite the fact that The Producers was a great success in the West End, this has not been the case in Bristol where advance ticket sales have not been sufficiently strong in order to make the run viable. Such decisions are only made once all other options have been exhausted."

Other visiting productions, including Welsh National Opera, Mamma Mia!, Joseph and 42nd Street will still go ahead.
