A show that started life in north Staffordshire is to head to Broadway for the New Vic Theatre’s first international tour.

The Newcastle-under-Lyme theatre-in-the-round’s production of Laura Eason’s adaptation of Jules Verne’s Around the World in 80 Days will have a 10-performance run at New York’s New Victory Theatre before heading down the coast to Florida.

New Vic artistic director Theresa Heskins said, “nothing makes me happier than knowing that the New Vic is creating world-class theatre for local audiences. And now we’ve got the chance to tell the rest of the world about the special place we call home.”

She has reassembled the cast who took the show on a UK tour in 2017. Reprising their roles are Pushpinder Chani as Mr Naidu, Kirsten Foster as Mrs Aouda, Matthew Ganley as Colonel Proctor, Dennis Herdman as Inspector Fix, Michael Hugo as Passepartout, Nyron Levy as Captain Speedy, Joey Parsad as Miss Singh, Andrew Pollard as Phileas Fogg and Stefan Ruiz in ensemble roles.

Around the World in 80 Days will have a short tour, stopping off at Liverpool Everyman and Playhouse from Wednesday 17 until Saturday 20 April and Salisbury Playhouse from Tuesday 23 until Saturday 27 April. It then goes to New York from Friday 10 until Sunday 19 May and Florida Asolo Repertory Theatre from Thursday 6 until Sunday 23 June.
