Greenwich Theatre is providing tickets to one hundred and fifty people on low incomes for award-winning theatre company The Paper Birds' new show.

The play, Broke, uses verbatim accounts from people struggling to make ends meet and shows how individual debt fits within the bigger picture of national debt.

"It's not quite as heavy as it sounds," said artistic director Jemma McDowell. "It's lots of fun, very visual and physical. It's about our individual experiences of money, how to budget, but it's also about our upbringings and what we were taught about money when we were younger."

The Paper Birds plan to develop of a trilogy of shows of which Broke is the first.

Greenwich Theatre's offer is not available online. Recipients will be asked for a donation to the theatre of £3.

Broke was co-commissioned by and developed at West Yorkshire Playhouse and Greenwich Theatre. It runs at Greenwich Theatre from 22 to 24 January and is suitable for those aged 13 and over.
