Greig's Bulbul Travels to Iran David Greig's play When the Bulbul Stopped Singing, based on the diary of Palestinian writer Rajah Shehadeh during the invasion of Ramalah by the Israeli army, which won awards at the Edinburgh Fringe last year, is to be performed in Iran at the International Fadjr Theatre Festival. The tour is supported by the British Council. This will be only the second cultural exchange between Britain and Iran in twenty years: the last visit was in 2003 when Dundee Rep went to the same festival. Christopher Simon, who plays Shehadeh in the one-man play, told the Scotsman, "Having the opportunity to do it in Iran is both apt and indeed special. I really hope and believe that Bulbul will be received and understood in the way that it has been intended, as a cry for peace," whilst Greig has said that he believes that any cultural exchange can only reduce the distrust and suspicion felt by Iranians following the Iraq war. Please note that all three Archive indices are very long and will therefore take some time to download.
