Butley Revived 40 Years On Dominic West is to star as Ben Butley in the 40th Anniversary revival of Simon Grays classic comedy at the Duchess Theatre from 1st June 2011, following a week's run at Brighton Theatre Royal. Butley premiered in 1971 in Harold Pinters award-winning production with Alan Bates in the lead at the Criterion Theatre. Ben Butley is having a monumentally bad day. So bad, hes making sure everyone else has a worse one. His estranged wife has taken up with the most boring man in London. His beloved protégé has found a new benefactor. And in an unprecedented act of betrayal even the English departments resident failure has a book deal. Butleys trusty arsenal mischievous irony and gleeful troublemaking have never failed him yet. Might they finally prove to be the weapons of his own tragic self-destruction? West in joined in the cast by Penny Downie and Paul McGann. Lindsay Posner directs. One of the producers is Eleanor Lloyd whose debut as a West End producer is supported by the Stage One Start-Up Fund for New Producers. Butley runs at the Brighton Theatre Royal from to 28th May and opens at the Duchess Theatre on 6th June (previews from 1st), booking initially to 27th August.
