Brian Way Award 2008 The Arts Council established this annual Award in 2000 to celebrate the accomplishments and raise the profile of theatre for young people and, most especially, playwrights who work in this field. Theatre Centre has agreed to fund the 2008 Award. Brian Way was one of the founders of Childrens Theatre in this country and was uncompromising in his endeavours and commitment to its cause. He founded Theatre Centre in 1953, and the company to this day continues his work and passion for taking theatre to young people of all ages and for endeavouring to make a difference to them. He wrote over sixty plays for children as well as seminal text books on drama and participatory theatre. The 2008 AwardSubmitted plays should be suitable for young people up to the age of eighteen and be at least forty-five minutes long. They must have been produced professionally between 1 July 2006 and 31 August 2007. This may be a first, second or third production of a play written within the past ten years. The playwright must either be resident in the UK or Republic of Ireland or have had a writing association with a theatre company or group based in the UK or Republic of Ireland. Previously submitted plays will not be considered. The Award
