Byre to Challenge SAC Fund Withdrawal The Byre Theatre in St Andrews is to mount a legal challenge to the withdrawal of its funding by the Scottish Arts Council which, from the beginning of this month, was replaced by Creative Scotland. David Taylor, co-director of arts at Creative Scotland, told The Stage that the new organisation has no plans to review "decisions already taken through the robust funding process of the Scottish Arts Council." Dr Frank Quinault, the theatre's chairman, said, "Given the SACs investment in the fabric of this design award-winning building, and in recently announced capital developments to support business growth at the theatre, it would appear contradictory and short-sighted of Creative Scotland to withdraw support at this stage." The Byre, which had asked for an increase of £130,000 in its £160,000 funding for 2012/2012, will continue its planned programme to April next year.
