The casting has been announced for a new local newspaper-based play, Five Dead No Bodies, at South Shields Customs House in February.

The setting of the play, which is written by a former journalist Susan Wear and former local paper editor Rob Lawson, is the Tyneside Times, a fictional local newspaper struggling to retain its circulation and relevancy.

The newspaper editor will be played by actor, musician and stand-up comedian Micky Cochrane from Dunston. His last appearance at the Customs House was in Geordie the Musical in August / September 2015.

The rest of the cast, who play multiple roles, are Kylie Ann Ford from South Shields who last appeared at the venue in The Dolly Mixtures in 2016, Gary Goodyear who has appeared at Live Theatre, Northern Stage and Alphabetti, Christina Berriman-Dawson who has toured nationally and to New York with Open Clasp’s Key Change and was also in The Dolly Mixtures, and Stockton actor and theatre and film director Andy Berriman who is making his Customs House debut.

Five Dead No Bodies is directed by Scott Young, Artistic Director of Teesside-based OddManOut Theatre Company.

“Beneath the comedy,” he said, “the play has such an important message about how we get the news that is so relevant to everyone in this so-called post truth era of fake news and confected stories. We’re delighted to have such a great cast.”

Five Dead No Bodies runs from 16 to 18 February and tickets are now on sale.
