Cheek by Jowl/Barbican Partnership

Theatre company Cheek by Jowl and the Barbican Centre have announced a three year partnership in which the company will present two productions a year at the City venue. The two works will be an English production and one of the company's Russian productions. They will be performed in a reconfigured Barbican Theatre, which will seat 400 instead of the usual 1,160.

Programming for the first two years (2006 and 2007) has been announced: productions for 2008 will come later. In 2006 the company will present a new version by Declan Donnellan of the epic Gilgamesh and its all-male Russian staging of Twelfth Night. 2007 will see a production of Cymbeline and Chekhov's Three Sisters, which is currently playing in Moscow.

Twelfth Night and Three Sisters will tour the UK and Gilgamesh will tour internationally.

Arts Council England has given Cheek by Jowl a £900,000 grant for the programme.
