Schools and youth groups from across the UK and Ireland will present excerpts from classic musicals and Disney favourites in a day-long programme at Curve, Leicester.

The inaugural Junior Theatre Celebration (JTC), organised by theatrical licensing agency Music Theatre International (Europe), will be held on Sunday 12 March.

Performers aged from 7 to 18 will perform selections from shows including Guys and Dolls, Hairspray, Disney's The Little Mermaid and Aladdin. They are collectively known as Broadway Junior musicals and are approved by their authors.

An afternoon session will feature a question-and-answer segment with Strictly Come Dancing winner Joanne Clifton, who is in the current UK tour of Thoroughly Modern Millie, and workshops presented by artists from the West End productions of Disney’s The Lion King, Matilda and Wicked.

In the evening, there will be a concert of musical theatre standards performed by Liam Doyle, Sophie Linder-Lee, Sam Lupton and Kayleigh McKnight.
