Donations collected during Lichfield Garrick’s festive performances in December 2016 totalled more than £8,000 which will be split equally between St Giles Hospice and the Garrick’s youth theatre.

The money was donated at performances of the panto Sleeping Beauty and a new comedy thriller co-produced in-house with New Old Friends, Crimes Against Christmas.

The theatre’s executive director Karen Foster said, “we know our Christmas audiences are very generous but we didn’t expect to raise over £8,000.

“Knowing that we’ve helped St Giles Hospice to provide care to people in need strengthens our partnership with the hospice and we’re delighted to support such an important local charity.

“As a charity ourselves, we’re delighted that we can now support young people to join our youth activities through bursaries for anyone who needs extra help, which means the youth theatre is accessible to everyone.”
