Kinnear Wins Charleson Award The 2007 first prize winner of the Ian Charleson Award, given for outstanding performances by young actors under the age of 30 in a classical role, has gone to Rory Kinnear for his performances as Pyotr in Gorkys Philistines and Sir Fopling Flutter in The Man of Mode (for which he won the Olivier for Best Supporting Performance in a Play) both at the National Theatre. Second prize winner was Michelle Dockery for her performance as Eliza in Peter Hall's production of Pygmalion and the third prize went to Tom Hiddleston, for Cassio in Othello at the Donmar. Hiddleston is also an Olivier winner, having been awarded Best Newcomer in a Play for his performance in Cheek by Jowl's Cymbeline. A Special Commendation was awarded to Edward Bennet for his performances in Nan and Diana of Dobson's (Orange Tree), and Hall's Pygmalion and the Donmar Othello. Commendations went to Sam Crane, Gabriel Fleary, Harry Hadden-Paton, Daniel Hawksford, John Heffernan, Richard Madden, Carey Mulligan, Pippa Nixon, Amy Noble, Claudia Renton, Dominic Tighe and Tom Vaughan-Lawlor. The Ian Charleson Awards are in memory of the actor who died of AIDS in 1990 at the age of 40.
