Chichester Macbeth Tony Nominations Chichester Festival Theatres multi-award winning production of Macbeth has been nominated for six Tony Awards, it was announced today.
The Tony Awards recognise excellence in live American Theatre. Macbeth has been nominated for the Best Revival of a Play with Patrick Stewart up for Best Performance by a Leading Actor and Kate Fleetwood nominated for Best Performance by a Leading Actress.
Anthony Ward has been nominated for Best Scenic Design for his set; Howard Harrison for Best Lighting Design and Adam Cork for Best Sound Design.
The winners will be announced in a ceremony hosted by Whoopi Goldberg at the Radio City Music Hall in New York on 15th June.
Macbeth transferred to the Lyceum Theatre on New Yorks Broadway after critically acclaimed, sell-out runs at Chichesters Minerva Theatre, Londons West End and at BAM (Brooklyn Academy of Music).
Jonathan Church Artistic Director of Chichester Festival Theatre said, " Macbeth really was a production of a lifetime. Working together with a remarkable cast and creative team was a very special experience and is something that we are all immensely proud to have been part of.
"You dream of a project starting out at a studio theatre in Chichester and ending up on Broadway being nominated for Tony Awards a year later."
Patrick Stewart said, "This is my first Tony nomination after performing on Broadway for more than thirty years and it has certainly been worth waiting for - I couldnt be happier. Its been an extraordinary journey from the Minerva Theatre to Broadway and I congratulate Chichester Festival Theatre we all share in this success."
Kate Fleetwood, who plays Lady Macbeth added, "I'm totally thrilled and honoured to be nominated for a Tony Award. We're so proud that this production has had such an extraordinary journey from Chichester to Broadway and I'd like to thank everyone at Chichester who has supported the work."
Since opening at Chichester in May 2007, Macbeth has brought home a string of awards including Evening Standard Awards for Best Actor and Best Director and a TMA Award for Best Performance in a Play and Olivier Awards for Best Director and Best Lighting Design.
