An actress who has appeared in 15 Dukes productions has become the Lancaster’s theatre’s latest honorary patron.

Christine Mackie’s appointment was announced at a special reception in the Ashton Memorial before a performance of this year’s outdoor walkabout show—Hansel & Gretel And More Tales From The Forest.

The location was particularly appropriate for Christine, who has appeared in four of The Dukes past shows in Williamson Park: Comedy of Errors, Jungle Book, A Midsummer Night’s Dream and The Three Musketeers.

Christine’s first job was with The Dukes theatre-in-education team and she also met her future husband, James, at the venue.

Her other theatre work includes productions at Manchester’s Royal Exchange, Bolton Octagon, the Belgrade in Coventry and national tours with Perspectives and Women’s Theatre Group.
She was a member of the BBC Radio Rep and has been in many productions including The Way We Live Now, Roots, Jerusalem North West and Writing the Century.

Christine’s most recent television roles include Daphne Bryant in five episodes of Downton Abbey, Miss Hicks in the CITV series My Phone Genie, Fiona in Banana for E4 and she’s soon to be seen as Dr Gaddas in Coronation Street.

Christine now joins fellow honorary patrons BAFTA award-winning actress Sarah Lancashire and Coronation Street favourite, Cherylee Houston.
