Churchill the puppet

Churchill in Panto

Churchill, the puppet bulldog which is the public "face" of insurance company Churchill, is to appear in panto this year, but not just in one show. The insurance company and Qdos Pantomimes have signed a deal which will see the puppet appearing on stage in all 22 of Qdos' pantos across the country, in Aberdeen, Belfast, Birmingham, Bradford, Cardiff, Crawley, Darlington, Dartford, Edinburgh, Hayes, Hastings, High Wycombe, Hull, Llandudno, Newcastle, Northampton, Nottingham, Plymouth, St Albans, Southend, Swindon and Wolverhampton.

He will be on stage alongside such stars as John Barrowman, Christopher Biggins, Julian Clary, Brian Conley, Nigel Havers, Leslie Grantham, Lesley Joseph, Paul Nicholas, Joe Pasquale and Shane Ritchie.

The tie-up is the product of six months of negotiation between Churchill’s agent and Qdos and is the first time that a branded character such as the Churchill dog has been included on stage as part of a commercial tie-in.

Although the terms of the sponsorship deal have not been revealed, rumours in the industry suggest that Churchill is paying in excess of £100,000.

The deal is for one year, although there is an option to renew in future.
