Dateline: 20th December, 2009
City of Culture Longlist Margaret Hodge, the culture minister, has announced fourteen areas which have been "longlisted" for the title of UK City of Culture 2013. They are Barnsley, Hull, Birmingham, Ipswich and the Haven Gateway, Carlisle, Norwich, Chichester, Portsmouth and Southampton, Cornwall, Sheffield, Derry, Southend, Durham and Swansea. It was announced in September that 28 areas had put in bids. The judging panel of Derrick Anderson, John Ashton, Anna Carragher, Margaret Evans, Lauren Laverne, Rotha Johnston, Robert Palmer under chair Phil Redmond will recommend a shortlist in the spring.
