Dateline: 15th June, 2003 New Citz Director Jeremy Raison has been appointed to succeed Giles Havergal, Philip Prowse and Robert David MacDonald as arttistic director of Glasgow's Citizens' Theatre. Jeremy Raisons extensive productions as writer/director include Saki with Sir Dirk Bogarde, Alan Bates and Zoe Wanamaker, The Rain Gathering with Ralph Fiennes at the Royal National Theatre and Dead Dad Dog with Robert Carlyle at the Traverse Theatre. He has directed more than thirty world premieres as well as classics by Shakespeare, Goldoni, Marivaux, Strindberg, Wilde, Shepard and Pinter. He has worked for the Royal National Theatre, Traverse Theatre and for many companies in the UK as well as in Denmark, Zimbabwe and Italy. For his work as Artistic Director of Chester Gateway Theatre, he won the TMA Award for Outstanding Achievement in Regional Theatre in 1997.His recent experience has been in the area of film where his short film, Small Moments, won two awards. 42 year old Raison already has experience of Scottish Theatre: he became assistant director at the Traverse in Edinburgh in 1986. An old Etonian, he studied drama at Bristol University. The "Triumvirate" of Havergal, Prowse and Macdonald is standing down after more than thirty years at the helm of the Citz. Recently the theatre has been experiencing some financial difficulties with a year-on-year reduction in its grant from the City Council with its support from the Scottish Arts Council - some modest increases - not making up the difference. The Citizens, Raison told "The Scotsman", "represents Glasgow, Scotland and Europe, and what we dont represent is a northern outpost of London theatre. In terms of identity, I do believe that Scottish theatres have a particular obligation to Scotland." Please note that all three Archive indices are very long and will therefore take some time to download.
