Clark Announces New Hampstead Season

Anthony Clark, the incoming artistic director of the Hampstead Theatre, who replaces Jenny Topper who was awarded a CBE last month, has announced his first season at the theatre. It consists of six productions which will run until 6th March, 2003.

  • The Maths Tutor by Clare McIntyre will open the season on 25th September (World premiere)
  • Second in the season will be Gregory Burke's second play, following the huge success of this first, Gagarin Way, which was a hit at the Edinburgh Fringe and went on to equal success in London. The Straits opens on 29th October and runs until 29th November. (London premiere)
  • From 4th December to 3rd January Hampstead will present its Christmas play for children, aimed at 7 to 11 year olds: Meteorite by Barbara Norden. (World premiere)
  • Revelations by Stephen Lowe runs from 10th December to 31st January. (World premiere)
  • From 5th January to 6th March Drew Pautz’s first play All This Stuff will run. (World premiere)
  • The last play of the season will be a two-hander by Hanif Kureishi, When The Night Begins. (World premiere)

Anthony Clark saysof his first season: "The chance to run a vibrant new writing theatre in a stunning new home has to be one of the most exciting jobs in British Theatre. While the plays I have chosen all share a passion on behalf of the writers to explore the contemporary world, it's the boldness of the writing and the variety of tone which I believe distinguishes them."
