Dateline: 4th July, 2008
Clive Hornby (1944 - 2008) Actor Clive Hornby has died at the age of 63. He is best known for playing Jack Sugden in the TV soap Emmerdale for 28 years, although at the beginning of this year he announced that he would be taking a break from the programme because of ill health. Born in Liverpool, he was an accounts clerk before playing drums for pop group The Dennisons. Although highly regarded on the Liverpool music scene (and, indeed, playing on the same bill as The Beatles at the Cavern), they did not have the success they hoped for and split in 1966. Hornby then went to LAMDA. He began his acting career in rep and was then cast in Get Some In!, an army sitcom, Gerry Andersons Space 1999 and Minder alongside George Cole. He joined Emmerdale on a three month contract in 1980. No details about his death have been released.
