Cockpit's Theatre Maker

London's Cockpit Theatre this week launches a hub which will centre on learning and sharing events designed to specifically help people devise and make their own work, for which they have coined the term 'Motivated Theatre'.

Motivated Theatre is characterised by the creatives having control of the process which focuses more on origination than interpretation and emerges from their experiences or real-life concerns, producing work that could only be made by them.

Motivated Theatre classes include short courses on creative and practical techniques that will run for five to six weeks such as Making Theatre With Improvisation. They are designed to be affordable and easy to work around commitments with prices for the six-week classes from £80.

One-off, day-long and weekend workshops will focus on useful and specific skills and talks and Q&A sessions will centre around knowledge and practical skills, for example Making the Best Use Of A Tech Rehearsal.

Showcase opportunities are through the monthly scratch night, Theatre In The Pound, and monthly rehearsed readings, New Stuff Night. Theatre Maker also provides affordable space hire and meet-ups.

The initiative will see Cockpit supporting some initiatives through to production.

The Theatre Maker launch event is on 18 February starting at 10AM and includes taster sessions. It is free but online registration is advised.
