Contact is Five! Manchester's Contact Theatre is delighted to be celebrating the anniversary of its opening on 26th November. It has been an exciting year for Contact, winning the ART 04 Award and gaining national and international recognition for its co-productions and inhouse shows. Since Contact re-opened in 1999, it has had over 646 shows and hundreds of thousands of audience members through its doors (mostly under 35’s), plus many thousands of participants. Contact’s 5th Anniversary will be a celebration of its achievements and what’s yet still to come! John E. McGrat,h the Artistic Director who was appointed when the building re-opened in 1999, said “We are delighted to be celebrating our fifth Anniversary. It has been an amazing five years: we’ve had thousands of young people participate in our workshops and have seen many of them develop professionally into talented writers, directors and actors. "Contact has been a hot bed of creativity for new and emerging artists as well as hosting some of the most fantastic and inspiring work by national and international companies. We are also proud of inhouse and co-productions which have pushed the boundaries of theatre, exploding with new ideas and inspiration, often leading to sell out shows! We’re always looking for new talent and our new writing programme has been the driving force in discovering some of the hottest, new writers in the region, the last five years have been awesome and we’re looking forward to the next five years and more!” To celebrate Contact’s 5th Anniversary, the theatre will be hosting a special night of celebration themed around the number 5. This event will be a glorious celebration of Contact’s creative past and will look forward to its promising future.
