Newcastle’s Alphabetti Theatre is to host two new plays from London and North East based theatre company Coracle.

Trajectory is the overall title given to the double bill of Life After by Arabella Arnott and Bricks and Mortar by Steve Byron.

Life After, in which Arnott plays Helen whose sister Sophie died in an accident a year ago and Carl Kennedy plays Simon who loved Sophie, is a dark comedy dealing with love, death and loss and is directed by Matt Jamie.

Arnott, a poet as well as an actor, is the author of two previous plays at Alphabetti: Fresh Start (The Frights response plays) and Appling (New Year’s Eve Alphabetti Soup 2016).

Byron’s Bricks and Mortar, directed by Gary Kitching, is described as a “bitter-sweet” comedy. Mary has lived under the same roof for over fifty years, setting up home with husband Cyril and bringing up her only son Gavin. Now she is alone, the council has decided that her home is too big for one and decided to rehouse her. She has other ideas. Paula Penman stars.

Byron has also written two previous plays which have been performed at Alphabetti: the short Wrong Place, Wrong Time, written in response to How Did We Get to This Point?, and Bacon Knees and Sausage Fingers, which he co-wrote with Gary Kitching. Both were performed at Alphabetti in 2016.

Coracle was set up in London in 2009 by actor, poet and visual artist Lucinda Lloyd and Pascale Langdale. Its current members are Lloyd (London), Arabella Arnott (Newcastle), Matt Jamie (Newcastle) and actor, writer and dramatherapist Sarita Plowman (London).

Trajectory runs from 1 to 4 March 2017.
