Coventry’s Belgrade Theatre has announced the line-up for its autumn 2017 season, including the world premiere of the Coventry musical Godiva Rocks.

The show will feature 20 classic songs from Coventry artists such as Frank Ifield, Vince Hill, Hazel O’Connor, The Specials, Terry Hall, King, The Primitives and The Enemy. It will run on the main stage at the Belgrade from 7 until 21 October.

The theatre will mark the 10th anniversary of its B2 auditorium with a production of Faithful Ruslan—The Story of a Guard Dog, co-produced with Glasgow’s Citizens Theatre and directed by Helena Kaut-Howson.

Based on the cult novel by Georgi Vladimov and translated by Michael Glenny, this new play is set during 1953 after the death of Josef Stalin when inhabitants of prison camps across Russia were liberated and many guard dogs were abandoned. It runs from 2 until 16 September.

The anniversary celebrations will continue with Pink Sari Revolution, based on the book by journalist Amana Fontanella-Khan, produced in partnership with Curve, West Yorkshire Playhouse and English Touring Theatre, from 11 until 21 October.

The Agatha Christie Company will return to the Belgrade with the stage adaptation of Ruth Rendell’s novel A Judgement in Stone from 19 until 23 September.

Graeae Theatre Company’s presentation of the punk rock musical Reasons to be Cheerful, featuring the music of Ian Dury and the Blockheads, starts a nationwide tour at the Belgrade on 8 and 9 September. This will be followed by the Madness musical Our House, created by Tim Firth, from 8 until 11 November.

The Russian State Ballet and Opera House will perform three masterpieces of classical ballet, Swan Lake, The Nutcracker and Romeo and Julie, from 23 until 25 October.

At Christmas 2017 the Belgrade will present Cinderella, written and directed by Iain Lauchlan, from 2 November until 13 January, and an alternative Christmas comedy, The Good, The Bad and The Ugly Sisters, from 2 until 30 December.
