New Director at Camden

The Board of Camden People's Theatre is pleased to announce the appointment of Jonathan Salisbury as Director of the Company. He will replace Artistic Director Chris Goode who has been with the Company for the past three years. Jonathan will work closely with the Board to continue cpt's ten-year record of support for emerging companies and artists, providing space, mentoring and promotion for genuinely risk-taking work.

Chris says of his departure, "I've spent the last three years working alongside many of the most exciting and inspiring young theatre artists in the country, and I've enjoyed the experience immensely. Now that cpt has made it safely to its tenth birthday, it's the right time for me to move on to some new challenges. I'm really looking forward to watching the next stage of the venue's development, and the breadth of vision and depth of experience that Jonathan brings will obviously be invaluable. I hope he has as much fun as I did."

Jonathan's career in the arts includes performance, writing, teaching and production. His directing credits include the opening season at the Norwich Playhouse as well as work presented at Yvonne Arnaud and Bloomsbury Theatres and most recently an Italian tour of Howard Brenton's Bloody Poetry. He worked on the production of a large-scale arts education programme and performance events for the Greenwich & Docklands International Festival and was Festival Director for the Shoreditch & Hoxton Millennium Festival.

For the last four years, Jonathan was responsible for programming a huge range of work at Hoxton Hall and was particularly influential in raising the organisation's profile through the development of the venue's experimental theatre and live art programme. He is strong advocate for the support of emerging companies and for the development of the theatrical form and says of his appointment at cpt, "I hope to consolidate cpt's position within the region and develop the theatre's physical, financial and human resources. I'd like to see a profile for the venue that reflects our aim to become a leading centre for the promotion of contemporary theatre work in London.

"cpt is at a very exciting point in its development. I am confident that, over the coming years, we will be able to work with a variety of partners to achieve our aim to further encourage and sustain artistic adventure and collaboration, and to encourage both artists and audiences to take risks in a supportive and sustainable environment.

"I'd like to build on the great work that Chris Goode has done in helping the organisation achieve it's ambitions artistically and structurally to create a situation where it can grow in stature and influence, and continue to offer audiences a unique experience in an exuberant and welcoming space."
