CragRats in Receivership

CragRats, the Holmfirth based education company which was formed "to create engaging learning experiences which appeal to a range of learning styles" in the education and corporate sectors and is one of the largest employers of actors in the UK, has gone into receivership. It employs 80 full-time staff and has between 300 and 400 actors and performers on its books. All parts of the business, including the youth theatre, have been closed.

Office staff were sent home on Monday and performers were told yesterday that the company will be unable to honour its contracts with other organisations except for those working for Stimulated Patients UK whose contract with the NHS will be honoured.

A company insider said that it has been struggling financially for some time but, with new contracts due to start in September, it had hoped to borrow money to tide it over until then. This has proved impossible and so the decision was made earlier this week to go into receivership.
