Robert Powell takes the throne in new play King Charles III, at the Opera House, Manchester, in March.
Written by Mike Bartlett—who also wrote the 2015 television hit Doctor Foster—the production explores the unwritten rules of democracy and the conscience of Britain’s most famous family.
Directed by Rupert Goold, it won an array of awards in 2015 and also enjoyed a successful run on Broadway.
Salford-born Powell, plays Charles in the tour, but is perhaps best known for his portrayal of Jesus in Jesus of Nazareth and as series regular Mike Williams in Holby City. He appears alongside Penelope Beaumont as Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, Jennifer Bryden as Katherine, Duchess of Cambridge, Ben Righton as William, Duke of Cambridge and Richard Glaves as Prince Harry.
Following this tour, Powell will reprise his role when the play opens in Sydney on March 31.
