Daniel Evans

Housewarming and New Season in Sheffield

Daniel Evans, the newly appointed Artistic Director of Sheffield Theatres, has announced his inaugural season for the company commencing in February 2010. The season will launch the newly refurbished Crucible Theatre which is reopening after an extensive development programme.

Making the announcement, Evans said, “It’s a hugely exciting time for the organisation. As we announce a brand new season of plays, we are also preparing to reopen the Crucible Theatre after a £15.3m redevelopment programme. In choosing the plays for the opening season, I’ve concentrated on two guiding principles: first, I wanted to offer a variety of work (including classics, world premières, adaptations and theatre for young people), and secondly, I wanted to present plays that speak directly to the city of Sheffield and the region at this moment in time.

“Next year the Crucible will celebrate its 40th anniversary and I look forward to working with the team at Sheffield and the audiences in South Yorkshire to ensure that the company will re-establish itself at the forefront of regional theatre in the UK.”

The season will be:

The production tours to schools across the region prior to its run in the Studio.
