Cutting Edge: British Theatre In Hard Times - a day-long conference looking at theatre under the present coalition government

Cutting Edge: British Theatre In Hard Times is a day–long conference that takes place next weekend; it will look at the fortunes of British theatre since 2010 and the creation of the current coalition government.

Following on from the 2007 conference, How Was It For Us?, the 25 April event will consider the funding cuts, evidence that the arts are being drained from the school curriculum and what it means that theatre critics are fired from newspapers, together with audience figures and the quality and quantity of new work and asks if theatre has found new purpose and power in the age of austerity?

Amongst the speakers are actors, directors, critics and playwrights. The conference is organised by the British Theatre Consortium.

Cutting Edge: British Theatre In Hard Times takes place on 25 April at Central St Martins, London. Tickets are £25 and £15 for students. Refreshments will be provided.
