Dateline: 21st July, 2005
Daisy Miller to Tour Jean Boht, Sandra Dickinson, Shirley Anne Field, Scarlett Johnson, Richard Grieve and Craig Giovanelli are to star in a new touring production of Henry James' novel Daisy Miller. Young writer, Winterbourne, is immediately drawn to the flighty Daisy Miller with her youthful high spirits and American spontaneity. An invitation to meet her again in Rome is spoilt by Daisy's insistence on keeping company with the charismatic Italian lawyer Mr Giovanelli. As disdain about her recklessness with men resonates around the aristocratic circles, Winterbourne continues to defend the girl, but at what cost. Does he love the headstrong Daisy or is it her tainted innocence that captivates him? As a cautionary tale of passion and romance unfolds, Winterbourne is confronted with a tragedy that will haunt him forever. Adapted for the stage by Dawn Keeler and directed by Christopher Morahan, the production opens at Malvern on 30th August and then goes on to Brighton, Richmond, Wolverhampton, Darlington, Chester and Poole, where it finishes on 22nd October.
