Dateline: 22nd October, 2004
Farr Succeeds Bartlett David Farr, the current joint artistic director and co-chief executive of Bristol Old Vic, is to take over as artistic director of the Lyric Hammersmith from Neil Bartlett. Bartlett leaves at the end of this month and Farr will take over in June of next year. Before moving to Bristol, Farr had had a varied directorial career. He ran the London fringe venue the Gate from 1995 to 1998, but he has also directed productions for the RSC (Coriolanus with Greg Hicks in 2003), the National Theatre, the Old Vic and Almeida Opera. He and his colleague Simon Reade have raised the profile of the Bristol venue since taking over, winning a TMA Award for Best Diector for A Midsummer Night's Dream last year. Bartlett leaves the Hammersmith theatre after ten years as artistic director. Please note that all three Archive indices are very long and will therefore take some time to download.
