Talfan Davies to lead WNO Geraint Tafan Davies, ousted from the chiar of the Arts Council of Wales by Assembly culture minister Alun Pugh, is to be the chair of Welsh National Opera, the company announced this week. He was chair of the national opera company for three years until he resigned to take over as chair of ACW in 2003 and he return was welcomed by general director John Fisher. "I am thrilled that Geraint is returning to WNO and that I will have the opportunity to work closely with him," he said. "His reputation in the arts is exceptional and I know he is one of the foremost advocates for the companys work. I am sure he will make a major contribution to the future success of WNO." He replaces the previous chair Tony Lewis who resigned because of ill health. Alun Pugh said he welcomed the news of the appointment: "Im delighted that someone with such a wealth of experience and who has contributed so much to the arts in Wales has been appointed to this important post," he said. The shadow culture minister Owen John Thomas also welcomed his appointent, and added, "It is good to see the former ACW chair back playing a central role in the arts in Wales."
