The cast of Dead Funny

Dead Funny on Tour

Following a successful run at Oldham Coliseum, where it is currently playing until 24th February, the new production of Terry Johnson's award winning comedy Dead Funny commences a major national tour, opening at the Billingham Forum on Monday 19th March.

Linking comedy and tragedy and exploring the failure of a marriage, it evokes happy memories interspersed with heartbreaking moments as human relationships break down.

What do you do when your husband cares more about a bunch of dead comedians than saving your relationship and your sex life? Eleanor finds herself in this very position as she battles it out against her husband, Richard, and the other members of the Dead Funny Society, a group of misfits who meet to celebrate the memory of the dead comedians.

On finding out about the death of comedy legends Benny Hill and Frankie Howard, Richard abandons his long-suffering wife to commiserate with fellow society members, Lisa and Nick. Amidst the slapstick and re-enactments of comedy sketches, secrets are revealed that promise to change the lives of this group of friends forever.

A cast of well known faces led by Steven Pinder (Richard), familiar to millions of TV viewers as Max Farnham in Brookside, with Samantha Giles (Lisa), best known for her roles in Emmerdale and Where The Heart Is, Ben Hull (Nick) who played Lewis in Hollyoaks, Kerry Peers (Eleanor) who appeared as Helen Carey in Brookside and WDC Suzi Croft in The Bill and Robin Askwith (Brian) who is well known for the hugely popular mid-70s Confessions Of series of films.

Nikolai Foster directs the play, which was first performed at Hampstead Theatre in 1994. It won numerous awards including Best New Play and Best West End Play, and Terry Johnson was named Playwright of the Year. Designed by Sara Perks
