Festival of Deaf and Disability Arts The third Xposure Arts Festival, which runs from 1st to 27the November, is the largest festival of disabled artists and performers ever held in the UK.
Forty-One productions including theatre, dance and visual arts, film/video, comedy and live literature, poetry, storytelling will be held throughout the month in six London venues, and three London based organisations.
At Jacksons Lane Arts Centre, hub of the Festival, Deafinately Theatre present Children of A Greater God by Tomato Lichy (3rd 6th & 9th 13th). A challenging response to the play Children Of A Lesser God, the play follows the love story between a Deaf woman and a speech therapist who is firmly convinced that his way is the right way. The response will highlight the story from a deaf perspective and draw attention to contemporary Deaf issues.
A Comedy night on Thursday 18th brings together comedy circuit favourites Philip Patston and The Nasty Girls, and Laurence Clarks The Jim Davidson Guide to Equality, a huge hit at this years Edinburgh Fringe can be seen on Tuesday 23rd.
Storyteller Kevin Kling whose irreverent stories on the eccentricities of those who call America home fall somewhere between David Lynchs perversity and Garrison Kellers home-spun humour, presents The Frozen Moose and Other Stories on Friday 12th at Croydon Clocktower and Saturday 20th at Jacksons Lane.
Actor and dancer Andrew McLays debut as a writer and solo performer, Watch The Spider, is a monologue about the psychological and physical journey of a man who prides himself on his body until a spinal injury leaves his permanently paralysed, impotent and incontinent. Breaking down barriers and taboos about an issue never before explored on stage, the production can be seen at the Oval House Theatre between 3 & 13 November (not Nov 4),
Graeae bring their national tour of Martin Shermans Bent to the artsdepot on 19th and 20th and Mind The Gap perform a forum theatre performance Never Again at Croydon Clocktower from the 15th to 17th, culminating in a daily audience discussion on disabled accessibility to arts events.
At Jacksons Lane, the venues Heart and Soul company present A Sense of Time, an evening of experimental pieces and chilled out music provided by a selection of DJs on Friday 19th and StopGap Dance Company perform a triple bill on Thursday 25th. Other dance in the season includes Inflections, a programme of dance curated by Corali Dance Company at Sadlers Wells on Friday 12th, a workshop by the company on Thursday 11th, and another at Croydon Clocktower on Wednesday 10th. CandoCo take a residency at Sadlers Wells from 8 13 November.
The Albany Theatre, who, along with artsdepot are new participants in the Xposure Festiva,l present a one day event on Saturday 13 November, Albany Xposure, showcasing the multi-media work by three of its resident companies: Drake Music Project, Heart and Soul and Entelechy Arts.
