Decade: Writers and Cast Announced

Headlong has announced the writers and cast for Decade, a site-specific production which investigates the legacy of 9/11 (see our news story of 28th June).

The writers will be:

  • Christopher Shinn (Now or Later at the Royal Court, which won an Evening Standard award for Best Play, Dying City which won the Pulitzer Prize for Drama, Where Do We Live and Other People)
  • Lynn Nottage (Ruined, which was also the recipient of seven Best Play Awards including the New York Critics’ Circle Award, two Drama Desk Awards and four OBIE Awards and was most recently seen at the Almeida Theatre, and Fabulation)
  • John Logan (Red at the Donmar Warehouse and Tony award-winner for Best Play), Never the Sinner, Hauptmann, Speaking in Tongues. As a screenwriter: Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street (Golden Globe Award), The Aviator, Gladiator, The Last Samurai, Any Given Sunday and the WGA Award-winning RKO 281)
  • Simon Schama is a professor of art history and history at Columbia University (Rough Crossings won the National Book Critics Circle Award for nonfiction and was produced for stage by Headlong in 2007. Documentaries for the BBC, PBS, and the History Channel, including The Power of Art, which won the 2007 International Emmy for Best Arts Programming, Art of the Western World and his award-winning 15 part History of Britain)
  • Bafta Award-winning writer Abi Morgan (BBC TV drama The Hour, the upcoming Margaret Thatcher film Iron Lady s and the award-winning drama Sex Traffic for Channel 4. She previously worked with Frantic Assembly on Tiny Dynamite, and her other previous writing for the stage includes The Night Is Darkest Before The Dawn, part of the Tricycle Theatre’s Great Game season, Fugee for NT New Connections, Tender at Hampstead and Splendour for Paines Plough).
  • Samuel Adamson (Breakfast at Tiffany’s at the Haymarket, Southwark Fair and Mrs Affleck for the National Theatre), Fish and Company for Soho Theatre/ National Youth Theatre, Clocks and Whistles at the Bush, Grace Note for the Peter Hall Company/Old Vic Theatre) and All About My Mother at the Old Vic).
  • Mike Bartlett (Earthquakes in London, Love, Love, Love for Paines Plough, Cock at the Royal Court, Artefacts at the Bush and My Child at the Royal Court)
  • Alecky Blythe (London Road at the National Theatre, The Girlfriend Experience, Do We Look Like Refugees?, Cruising and Come Out Eli).

The cast includes Jonathan Bonnici, Leila Crerar, Kevin Harvey, Tom Hodgkins, Samuel James, Arinze Kene, Amy Lennox, Tobias Menzies, Claire Prempah, Charlotte Randle, Cat Simmons and Lia Williams. Rupert Goold directs, Miriam Buether directs with costumes by Emma Williams, choreography by Scott Ambler, lighting designed by Malcolm Rippeth and composition and sound score by Adam Cork.

Decade runs at St Katharine Docks from 8th September (previews from 1st) and runs to 15th October.
