Derby banks on Jim for A Christmas Carol

Jim Barclay will play Ebenezer Scrooge in Derby Theatre's A Christmas Carol

Jim Barclay will play Ebenezer Scrooge in Derby Theatre’s 2014 festive production, Neil Duffield’s new adaptation of Charles Dickens’s A Christmas Carol.

Barclay, who has worked as an actor, comedian, teacher, street theatre performer and voiceover artist, was a member of the National Theatre Company for three years. His television appearances include Holby City, Doctors, New Tricks and 55 Degrees North.

Christopher Price will play Jacob Marley, Mr Fezziwig and other characters. He has appeared in two productions at Derby Theatre in 2014, Homer’s The Odyssey in which he played a multitude of roles including the mad and menacing Cyclops, and in Northern Stage's Catch 22.

Dan Willis will play Bob Cratchitt. He has performed in a range of roles in theatres across the UK including York Theatre Royal, Nottingham Playhouse, the Royal Exchange in Manchester and Birmingham REP.

Kate Robson-Stuart will be Mrs Cratchitt. Her list of credits in musical theatre includes Betty Blue Eyes at the Mercury Theatre in Colchester and The Rise and Fall of Little Voice at the Queen’s Theatre.

Esme Sears from Derby will play Belle and other characters while Adam Horvath who also hails from the city will be young Scrooge and Fred.

Joining the cast and also fulfilling assistant stage manager roles will be Daniel David, a theatre arts graduate from the University of Derby who will make his professional stage debut, and Yana Penrose.

Derby Theatre’s artistic director Sarah Brigham who directs A Christmas Carol, said, “I’m thrilled with the wonderful cast we’ve assembled for our big festive production for this year and the incredibly talented creative team we have on board.

“I’m also delighted that a company of local young people will be joining the ensemble.”

A Christmas Carol runs at Derby Theatre from Friday 5 December until Sunday 4 January.
