Derby Theatre reveals Brassed Off actors

Garry Cooper, Jimmy Fairhurst and Derby actor Adam Horvath will appear in Derby Theatre’s big autumn 2015 production Brassed Off.

Cooper will play the central role of Danny. He has appeared in productions at the Royal Shakespeare Theatre, National Theatre, West Yorkshire Playhouse and the Old Vic.

Fairhurst, who takes the role of Phil, played Jud in Derby Theatre’s production of Kes in 2013.

Horvath, the first recipient of the Brian Weaver Fellowship award which provides an aspiring actor with professional, paid work at Derby Theatre, will play Andy. Horvath appeared in Mike Kenny’s version of Homer’s The Odyssey and Neil Duffield’s adaptation of Charles Dickens’s A Christmas Carol at Derby Theatre as part of his Fellowship year. Brassed Off will be his first professional engagement since it finished.

Jake Waring, Horvath’s successor on the Fellowship, will also appear in the production.

Jo Mousley, who appeared in Birmingham Stage Company’s Horrible Histories Horrible Christmas in December 2013, will also be in the cast of Brassed Off, as will Lisa Allen, Kate Wood, Darren Bancroft, Derbyshire-based Howard Chadwick and and Seren Sandham-Davies.

A group of young actors will perform in three teams of three on a rotational basis. They include Christopher Underwood, aged 13, from Mickleover, Kiera Bonshor, aged 11, from Alvaston, Jess Waller, aged 9, from Belper, Oliver Watts, aged 12, from Allestree, Eva Waller, aged 8, from Duffield, Emily-May Stephenson, aged 9, from Swadlincote, Ava Lees, aged 9, from Ashbourne, Joe Mothershaw, aged 14, from Belper and Katie Hathaway, aged 10, from Smalley.

As previously announced, members of Derwent Brass will perform during each performance of Brassed Off, adapted by Paul Allen and based on the screenplay by Mark Herman. It runs at Derby Theatre from 18 September until Saturday 10 October.
