Lost Boys Productions: Punch and Judy

Two Derbyshire companies have been commissioned to create new work for the 2014 Derby Festé.

Lost Boys Productions and Babbling Vagabonds are the first artists from the county to perform in the seven-year history of the festival, “an annual extravaganza of city-wide live performances and breathtaking acts”.

Lost Boys Productions from Derby will present a giant Punch and Judy—but, instead of puppets, the characters will be played by actors in costumes and masks.

Two actors will change some of the existing storylines to represent themes and issues which resonate within modern society.

Babbling Vagabonds, an outdoor performance and events company based in Buxton, will construct, decorate, operate and present The Street Aquatic, a series of tropical sea creatures which will parade through Derby’s streets.

Stephen Munn from the Festé programming group and director of Derby dance centre Déda said, “We think it’s hugely important that a festival like Festé supports and nurtures local talent and, now that the funding for the festival is secure through to 2016, we’re in a position to be able to offer this exciting opportunity.”

Derby Festé will be staged on Friday and Saturday, 26 and 27 September.
