Design Award Applications Invited

The Linbury Biennial Prize for Stage Design is now accepting applications.

The award gives the most talented recent graduates in stage design the chance to work with leading British companies on opera, theatre or dance productions. It gives twelve short-listed designers the chance to exhibit their models and designs at the National Theatre. The four winners each receive cash prizes of not less than £5,500.

The Process

  1. Twelve finalists are selected, each receiving £500.
  2. The four participating companies will then select three designers with whom they wish to work on a design project.
  3. The twelve designers will exhibit their finished projects at the Linbury Biennial Exhibition at the National.
  4. The final judging will take place in late autumn.
  5. Four winners are selected, one of them being named as the overall Linbury Prize winner.
  6. All four winners receive £2,000, with the overall winner receiving an additional award. All four receive a commission to design a production for a leading theatre, opera or dance company, and a fee of £3,000.

Entries for the Linbury Biennial Prize are now open. Students who graduated in 2002 can register to enter this year's competition. Applications are welcome from students and recent graduates whose courses and colleges are recognized by the Society of British Theatre Designers.

The closing date is 30th June. To obtain an application form, go to the award website at http://www.linburybiennial.org.uk/ and follow the link to the application form (a PDF file). Applications wil only be accepted on this form and it is not available except on the website.
