Liam Gerrard, illusions consultant for The Dukes version of A Christmas Carol

Bob Cratchit is bringing a touch of magic to The Dukes Christmas production in Lancaster.

Actor Liam Gerrard, who plays Bob in A Christmas Carol, is also illusions consultant on the show.

Particularly popular in the show is his headless ghost of Mary Holden, the last woman to be hanged at Lancaster Castle, and one of several ghosts from local history who complement the familiar cast of Dickens characters in the show.

As a youngster, Liam joined Hull Magic Circle to pursue his interest and, when his family moved to Dubai, he became the resident magician in two of the country’s top hotels.

While studying at Lancaster University from 2001-4, he also performed at cabaret venues, holiday parks and workingmen’s clubs.

Although he performs less magic now, he has created illusions for the British Shakespeare Company, Nottingham Playhouse and Keswick’s Theatre By The Lake among others.

A Christmas Carol runs until January 4.
