“Powerful and polished”: Requiem for Ground Zero

A Birmingham youth theatre company feels terrorist attacks, increased prejudice against Muslims and even the Grenfell Tower disaster are contributing to poor ticket sales for its latest production.

Stage2 is to present a eulogy to 9/11, Steven Berkoff’s Requiem for Ground Zero. Company manager Alexander Butler says he can appreciate that a night out at the theatre reliving the New York tragedy may not naturally seem like the best way to spend a summer evening.

“However, we would like you to consider the following: our cast and crew between the ages of 9 and 20 from vastly different backgrounds, religions and cultures have all united for the past few months to work extremely hard together on a powerful and polished piece of theatre.

“We feel strongly that they deserve an audience and that projects like this are vitally important to show that we have more that unites us than divides us and we should come together to show love, strength and support.”

Requiem for Ground Zero will be performed in the Crescent Studio Theatre from Wednesday 19 until Saturday 22 July.
