Vatican Dante Opera May Tour An opera based on Dante's Divine Comedy, composed by Monsignor Marco Frisina, chapel-master of the Musical Lateran Chapel since 1985, may tour Europe after performances in the Vatican. The producers have requested that the premiere takes place in the Vatican in the presence of Pope Benedict XVI. Divided, like the original epic, into three parts (Heaven, Hell and Purgatory), the opera, which begins rehearsals in the next few weeks, will feature 200 performers and musicians, and six projectors. It will feature a number of musicals styles: Heaven will be represented by classical melodies, Purgatory by Gregorian Chant and Hell by rock and punk. Composer Frisina says that no value judgements are intended here but that rock, with its "violent and rebellious tones" will help set the right atmosphere for Hell. He says that the libretto comes directly from Dante's poem and the dances are based on descriptions in the poem. Please note that all three Archive indices are very long and will therefore take some time to download.
