Children and adults with complex accessibility requirements can be accommodated at Birmingham Hippodrome thanks to a donation from two regular supporters who want to remain anonymous.

The Hippodrome has been working with charity Acorns Children’s Hospice to provide children who have life-limiting or life-threatening conditions with access to theatre productions and specialist workshops.

During the visits, the theatre learnt from parents that without the hospice’s hoist it was difficult for some of them to attend with their children. The theatre now has a compact, folding, mobile hoist which will cater for visitors with limited mobility.

Hippodrome head of fundraising Rachael Magson said, “we value the relationship we’ve developed with Acorns Children’s Hospice over the past three years and this helped us to identify the need for our own hoist. This highlights how important donations are to us and the families we work with.”

Sarah Jasper, children, young people and sibling service manager at Acorns, added, “we’re proud that through our charity’s partnership with Birmingham Hippodrome we’ll be offering even more opportunities to children with special requirements to access the theatre’s facilities, workshops and performances.”
