Leicester De Montfort Hall’s 2018 production Peter Pan had a double success at the Great British Pantomime Awards.

Leicestershire’s X Factor winner Sam Bailey won the award for best supporting female and the panto also scooped best ensemble.

Bailey who played Mrs Darling and pirate Shoo said, “I’m so excited and honoured to have won this award. When I heard the news I felt so proud to be recognised in such a large group of amazingly talented females.

“I feel so happy to have received such incredible recognition for my work in this industry and I can only hope to have more great experiences, and work with many more great shows, in the future.”

Peter Pan was produced in partnership with Imagine Theatre and was nominated for pantomime of the year in the 750 to 1,500 seats category. Kev Orkian was nominated for best comic.

De Montfort Hall manager Antony Flint said, “we knew that Peter Pan had been popular with our audiences but it’s great to know that it was also a hit with the industry too.

“I think anyone who went to see Peter Pan will tell you what a special production it was and we’re very happy that the show has proved to be such a success.”

The 2019 panto at De Montfort Hall will be Aladdin. Casting will be announced shortly.
