The Doctor Comes - and Goes Actor Christopher Eccleston, the new Dr Who, is to leave after just one series, it has been announced just after the BBC commissioned a second series. Eccleston is worried about typecasting and found recording the series gruelling, and feels that continuing after the present series would interfere with other projects. "The audience's response for the new Doctor Who has been incredible," he said in a statement issued through the BBC, "and I am really proud to be part of it and I hope viewers continue to enjoy the series." The BBC has confirmed that they are in talks with David Tennant as a replacement for Ecclseton, but ex-pop star Billie Piper, who plays Rose, the Doctor's new sidekick, will continue into the next series. The new series started on Saturday and drew an average of 9.9m viewers (10.5m at its height). It will run for thirteen episodes. Please note that all three Archive indices are very long and will therefore take some time to download.
