Stones in his Pockets

The Dukes in Lancaster will launch the 20th anniversary production of the worldwide comedy hit Stones In His Pockets from February 25 to March 12.

Performed at a breakneck pace, it has become internationally renowned in more than 30 countries since it was premièred in 1996.

Two actors play an array of eccentric characters involved in the arrival of a Hollywood film crew looking for the ‘real’ Ireland for their latest schmaltzy blockbuster.

The pair watch with amazement while their quiet village community is turned upside down.

Playing Charlie and Jake are Irish actors Conan Sweeny and Charlie de Bromhead who both have extensive stage, television and film careers.

This latest version of the Olivier Award-winning play is a co-production between The Dukes and The Theatre Chipping Norton in association with Oxfordshire Theatre Company.

It is suitable for ages 13 plus, opens at The Dukes and will tour nationwide, with Arts Council support, until May 28.

Meanwhile, a multi-award-winning writer for film, television and theatre will be passing on words of wisdom to aspiring dramatists at The Dukes.

Jonathan Harvey will be opening up the writing process at a two-hour workshop next Friday from 3 till 5PM.

Jonathan, from Liverpool, wrote the film Beautiful Thing, BAFTA-nominated sitcom Gimme Gimme Gimme and Beautiful People which won a Best Comedy Award. He has written for both Coronation Street and Shameless and other television work includes Rev (which won a BAFTA for Best Sitcom), At Home With The Braithwaites, Lilies, The Catherine Tate Show and Murder Most Horrid.
