Dukes New Season The Dukes in Lancaster kicks its autumn season off this week with a co-production with Halifax-based Northern Broadsides of George Orwell's 1984 adapted by Nick Lane with animation mixed with the live action and specially-composed music by director Conrad Nelson. The other in-house production in the season will be artistic director Joe Sumsion's production of Hans Christian Andersen's classic children's story The Snow Queen, which will run over Christmas and into the New Year. Filter and the Royal Shakespeare Company will bring their collaborative production of Shakespeare's Twelfth Night, and Steven Berkoff will also pay the Lancaster venue a visit. There is more theatre in the Dukes cinema under the NT Live banner as live productions of Hamlet, King Lear and Frankenstein are broadcast direct from the National Theatre in London. David Chadderton
