Scene from Filter's 12th Night

Autumn in Lancaster

The Dukes in Lancaster begins its autumn 2010 season with yet another adaptation of George Orwell's seminal novel about living in a totalitarian society, 1984, in a co-production with Halifax-based Northern Broadsides. The Christmas production will utilise puppets, projection and live performance to tell Hans Christian Andersen's fairy tale The Snow Queen.

The RSC and Filter production of Shakespeare's Twelfth Night will pay a visit to Lancaster, as will Full Body and Voice with Hypothermia, set in Germany during the bleak winter of 1940. Fanshen and Company of Angels will present Blowing by leading Dutch playwright Jeroen van den Berg. As part of Litfest, actor, writer and director Steven Berkoff will tell his story in An Audience With....

For younger audiences, Little Angel Theatre will perform Handa's Surprise and James Campbell will bring his new show Comedy and Songs 4 Kids. There will also be performances from four Lancaster schools at The Dukes as part of the Shakespeare for Schools Festival.

The autumn programme also includes dance from African dance company Via Volcano, music from flamenco guitarist Juan Martin, Dan Haywood's New Hawks, Lancaster band Clever Trevor and Dean Friedman and comedy from Josie Long, Chris Addison, Isy Suttie, John Shutleworth and Sarah Millican.
